An Inside Look at Business Development with David Gauthier

David Gauthier, Business Development Manager – Transition Joints, will be celebrating his 20th work anniversary here in a few months. Gauthier’s progression through NobelClad is not uncommon as many other employees have followed a similar path. Gauthier’s NobelClad started in production where he then moved towards research & development.

For Gauthier, this is where a majority of his training and learning took place. Understanding product specifications, metal characteristics, quality assurance all laid a solid foundation for continued growth within the company.

In 2006, David made the jump from technical to commercial as a sales and product manager. Here Gauthier begin to establish relationships with companies and colleagues across the globe. In 2014, he made the move from sales to his current position in business development.

“It’s a rare, unexpected thing, what NobelClad has,” said Gauthier. “I have met and worked with people all over the planet. I have calls with contacts in Australia, I visit customers in Canada, I trade emails with colleagues in the Middle East. It’s a special opportunity to work with so many different customers and co-workers all over the world.”

In 2018, there was a big focus around the transportation market and educating the industry around the solutions our Aluminum to Steel transition joints provide for train manufacturers. From a partnership with a key train manufacturer in Europe to testing and qualifying fatigue and performance, Gauthier has spent many hours getting this product to market. With these products being featured in the RailEngineer publication, exhibiting at Innotrans and speaking at various industry events we are eager about the potential of this product.

While Gauthier may have a strong, determined character in the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. In fact, he is currently teaching his daughter to swim. He and his family also love to travel as they will be headed to Rome in a few weeks.
